THE MAN BEHIND THE MUSIC
Lawrence Narhkom is a professional trumpeter, recording artist, singer-songwriter and performer whose sound moves fluently between worlds — concert stages, church altars, jazz clubs and Afrobeats playlists.
Trained across concert band, orchestra, marching band and big band settings, Lawrence built a career on versatility: equally at home leading a brass ensemble, soloing over a gospel choir, or reworking a viral Afrobeats hit note for note on trumpet. His performances carry the rhythm and colour of Ghanaian music into every room he plays.
As a freelance musician, Lawrence has been fortunate to perform with numerous renowned ensembles. He has played with the Chineke! Orchestra, performing a specially commissioned piece by Hans Zimmer at the CBBC Proms, and appeared in the Globe Theatre production of "Shakespeare in the Abbey" alongside actor Mark Rylance. He served as support soloist to the late, celebrated South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela, and has soloed at numerous concerts and events, including the Ideal Home Show in support of the Soldiers' Charity.
Lawrence was featured in the BBC documentary "Black and British: A Forgotten History", portraying 17th-century Tudor trumpeter John Blanke. He also took part in the recent recording of the BBC television series Wolf Hall, alongside a stellar British cast, and was invited to perform at the British Library's exhibition Beyond the Baseline, celebrating 500 years of Black British music.
